Indonesian migrant workers are one of the important pillars of the national economy, both through their contribution to foreign exchange and their strategic role in meeting global labor needs. However, the process of labor migration still faces various challenges, such as limited competencies, lack of access to accurate information, and the risk of violations of labor rights and protection. These conditions require an integrated and sustainable assistance system.
The existence of MSC Unhas is expected to serve as a bridge between academia, government, and society in creating a safe, protected, and sustainable ecosystem for migrant workers. Through a collaborative and science-based approach, MSC Unhas not only functions as a service center but also as a forum for empowerment that encourages the emergence of competent, professional, and dignified Indonesian migrant workers.
As a leading public university in Indonesia, Hasanuddin University has a moral and social responsibility to contribute to addressing these challenges. With strong academic resources, an extensive partnership network, and a strategic role in education, research, and community service, Hasanuddin University views the issue of migrant workers as part of its efforts to develop globally competitive human resources.
In line with the government’s policy through the Indonesian Migrant Worker Protection Ministry (P2MI) which encourages the involvement of universities in the management of migrant workers, Hasanuddin University established the Migrant Service Center (MSC) as an integrated academic-based service center. The Unhas MSC is designed to provide education, training, and assistance services for prospective, active, and former migrant workers, from the pre-departure stage to post-return reintegration.
